Some things are just so funny when looked back on.
This is one of the many memories I have from my childhood.......................
I went on a field trip when I was about eight years old. When I say field trip I mean I was on a trip with my mother, the teacher, my two sisters and brother, my classmates. I was home schooled. My mom took us to a field trip to the Betsy Ross house in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. We were crossing the street when my younger sister, Rebecca, about three at the time, tripped and busted her lip open. OPEN. Blood was everywhere. My mom grabbed her and we all ran to nearest bathroom. I remember the bathroom was in the basement of whatever place my mom had rushed us all into. All five of us went into the bathroom. When you are home schooled it is very “normal” to do everything together. Everything. So there we were…… a mom with three healthy looking kids and one bleeding kid.
I remember my brother saying he felt nauseous. I told my mom I felt light headed. As a family, we are not good with blood. Our mom told me to sit on a toilet and put my head down and in the same breath told my brother, Darin, five at the time, to sit by the other toilet if he thought he was going to throw up. My mom was giving all these directions while trying to get my youngest sister’s lip to stop bleeding. My older sister, Jen, nine at the time, was just trying to help out.
I passed out and fell off the toilet (as I am told….I of course do not remember this) and Darin started to throw up.
Some time later…..the throw up was cleaned up, I was scrapped up off the floor, and the lip had stopped bleeding. As a family we exited the bathroom.

jes, i love this post! i can picture the scene completely. it's amazing how little your response to blood has changed all these years later :)
...and it's amazing how little my response to family crisis has changed all these years later. (:
nice... this really made me laugh. it's a great picture of what it is like to be a mom. someone please remind me why i want more kids!
funny stuff! okay, i also went on a field trip to the betsy ross house...that place was so scary! all those wax manequins. it was when i was in real school (well, rlca, if that counts), and i almost passed out because i realized that all those wax freaky people were representatives of dead people. and then, we went to betsy ross' gravesite. i had a nightmare that night that betsy ross died in her flag in my closet. i'm still kind of scared of betsy ross.
Omg I remember that! I still have that scar on my lip. I just remember sitting on mom's hip screaming bloody murder and the 3 of you were all in stalls next to each other about to pass out...excuse me while I bust out laughing from picturing this
